By 6 am, my inbox is already overflowing with emails touting AI: “How family offices can use Google’s AI Ops playbook,” “How AI powered sales playbooks accelerate revenue growth,” “Selling AI, cracking the code,” “The talent acquisition revolution is here, unleash AIs power in recruiting,” and about 10 more.
And my feed in LinkedIn is dominated by AI-though most of these tend to focus on miracle cures.
But look at past breakthrough technologies. We no longer talk about electricity, except like yesterday when I lost power in my office for 4 hours (Thank goodness for Starbucks). We no longer talk about the internet, except when we lose wifi.
In the early days of any of these disruptions, it’s all about the thing/technology itself. Later we stop talking about the “thing,” and just start doing things differently because of it. It is embedded into everything we do.
The core issue is less about the technology, but what are we doing differently. It is not that we are using AI, but what are we doing differently because we are using it.
How has your work changed? It’s not that AI is managing your emails, calendars, outreach, call prep. It’s that because of this you are doing things differently, spending your time differently, engaging your people, peers, customers differently.

How have your strategies changed? What new strategies can you put in place, with AI as an underpinning to it?
How have your operations changed, your products, your services, your ability to engage your employees, your….
Imagine, for instance, when the topic of AI never comes up in an earnings or investor call. It is already assumed a part of the way the organization works.
We will know we have gotten AI when no one brags about it, it’s just the way we work.
Afterword: This is a fascinating AI driven discussion of this post. It’s an interesting discussion, I found myself disagreeing with some of the things they spoke about, but it provoked different thinking for me. Enjoy!
