There’s been a huge number of articles about how sellers can used ChatGPT to provide endless amounts of content, sequences, and outreaches to customers. These tools can help make sellers more efficient, perhaps, sometimes even better.
But I’ve been struck by the absence of discussions about how buyers can use these tools, simplifying their digital research and learning. (Frankly, it’s not surprising, we sellers tend to be very self centered, forgetting how customers get work done).
I decided to become a buyer. For this example, I suggested I was looking for a sales enablement platform and asked ChatGPT to help simplify my digital research. In 10 minutes, I got quite bit of information, and direct links to materials that might be very helpful to me. Clearly, I could have drilled down, with more specific prompts, to get more information.
This was all done with the “old version” of ChatGPT, the new versions and other adaptations offer much more capability.
Clearly, these tools will become the Go To tools for modern buyers. Already very comfortable with the digital buying process, these tools help simplify their work.
This brings up a number of issues for sellers, the biggest is, “How do we show up in these tools?” Chat quickly selected 3 providers for me, ignoring the number of other providers. Also, “How do we make these tools are presenting things well?” While most of the responses I got for my prompts were pretty mundane, these initial interactions will shape my perspectives. I may be missing some things, I may be getting incorrect information, but it has already had a big impact on my search and my thinking.
How do we get ready for the ChatGPT Digital Buying Journey?

Dave: I’m looking to buy a sales enablement platform. What are the top 3 capabilities should I look for and what are the vendors best providing those capabilities
ChatGPT: When looking to buy a sales enablement platform, here are three key capabilities to consider:
- Content Management: The platform should provide a robust content management system that allows you to easily store, organize, and access all your sales collateral in one place. Look for a platform that allows you to create and manage different types of content, such as sales decks, case studies, product brochures, and videos. Ideally, the platform should also enable you to personalize content for specific buyers and buyer personas.
- Sales Training and Coaching: The platform should provide sales training and coaching capabilities that help sales reps improve their skills and performance. This can include features such as on-demand training modules, gamification, coaching prompts, and assessments. The platform should also provide analytics and reporting to track the effectiveness of training and coaching programs.
- Analytics and Reporting: The platform should provide analytics and reporting capabilities that enable you to measure the impact of your sales enablement efforts. Look for a platform that provides real-time insights into content usage, sales performance, and buyer engagement. The platform should also offer customizable dashboards and reports that allow you to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and measure ROI.
