Preface: Who doesn’t know Keenan? I first met him years ago as he was moving from sales leadership roles into establishing his own training and consulting company. I think what draws me to Keenan and his perspectives is his obsessive focus on the customer. What are their problems, how do we help them better understand them? How do we identify the GAP between where they are and where they need to be? How do we help them close that gap, achieving their goals. With Keenan and his team, selling success is all about the customer, not what we sell.
Keenan sums it up well! “When you look at selling, good selling, it’s all about helping teaching and solving problems. So sales lines up nicely with who I am and what I like to do on a regular basis.”
Why I’m So Interested In Selling!
The main reason I’m interested in selling is it combines 3 things that make up who I am and what I really like.
- Solving problems, I’m a problem solver. I love trying to improve things, change things for the better, expand things, fix things. I’m wired in a way that I get motivated by trying to figure out what the problem is, why it exists, what impact it is having and how we can fix it to create a better outcome. It’s just in my nature to always be looking at the world/business etc and ask, how can we make that better
- Helping people, I really enjoy the process of helping. I find it extremely gratifying to be able to add value and help people achieve something they couldn’t have on their own. Knowing that I was able to help someone or some organization accomplish something they couldn’t on their own gives me an amazing feeling. I really enjoy giving and helping and that’s what sales is all about.
- Teaching, similar to helping, I love teaching. I think too many people don’t recognize that a big element in good selling is a teaching component. Teaching people new things, new approaches, new processes, etc. is extremely gratifying. I love seeing ah ha moments in people.
