Over the past few years, I’ve noticed a trend among sellers. There seems to be no passion for what sellers do. To many, it’s a job, a way to make a living. Many, after reading posts from “experts” are solely focused on the “big bucks,” and the majority of them fail.
Selling is one of the toughest things to do well. It demands curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, discipline, and stamina. We fail frequently, despite doing the best we can do. We are constantly driven (or drive ourselves) to do more. And it demands hard work and time–always.
It takes a special mindset to do it well, year after year, growing and succeeding. And when one does, the reward, beyond financial, is amazing.
Given this, I’m just stunned by the number of “sellers,” that seem to get no joy out of what they do. I wonder why they would do something so hard.
I started writing about the issue, the first was: “Sellers, Are You Really Interested in Selling.”
That post provoked a challenge from a friend, “Dave, why are you so interested in selling?” A fair challenge, which caused me to write, “Why I Am Obsessed With Selling!” I challenged that friend, in turn to share his fantastic story.
In thinking about it, I started thinking about so many friends, colleagues, clients, and others who seem to share my passion. I have decided to start collecting their stories for two reasons. First, their stories are AMAZING! It’s interesting to see some very consistent themes that I don’t hear from many sellers I see in my feed. Second, I wanted to share their stories with sellers who may be struggling with their career decision or the hard work. Hopefully, these sellers might be inspired by what they read and begin to see the true joy and fun one can have as a seller.
Yesterday, I started sending requests to friends, colleagues, clients, asking for their stories. Several have responded immediately, excited by the project. Dozens of others are similarly excited, they are working on their stories and I’ll be adding them to this resource. You can find them under this category: “Why I’m So Interested In Selling.”

I came to selling through an obscure route. I’ve had executive roles that have gone beyond sales. But there is nothing more exciting and rewarding than selling. I hope you will learn to share the passion exhibited in these stories!
